NPCC - Platform

THE CHALLENGE

Abu Dhabi’s National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) wanted to refresh the design and content of its annual report, making it more accessible, engaging, and impactful to its readership.

As part of the refresh, NPCC wanted the report to adopt a more magazine-like feel, from both a content and visual perspective, covering both the successes of their projects throughout 2019, while also looking at the energy industry as a whole, through various insights, reports and interviews with key stakeholders.

THE SOLUTION

A robust yet flexible, 12 column grid system was created to allow for a variety of page layouts, allowing the content room to breathe, while also creating differentiating markers between content sections within the publication.

In order to achieve the desired magazine feel, the upfront section of the publication detailed the various industry news and events that had occurred throughout the year, while the middle and latter half contained deep-dive insights and long-form articles on various industry topics, supported by stunning imagery and engaging visual layouts.

NPCC - Sustainability Report

Following on from the success of their ‘Platform’ publication, I was later engaged to produce NPCC’s Sustainability Report for 2019. Inspired by the solution for ‘Platform’, they asked me to uplift and elevate their report design, injecting a more structured and elevated editorial direction that would ensure content impact, legibility and resonance from end-to-end.

Sahtain! – Expo 2020 Dubai & DWTC

THE CHALLENGE

Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC) at Expo 2020 Dubai wanted to showcase their F&B offerings via a print brochure that would be distributed at various trade events and shows, while a downloadable digital PDF would be housed on the Expo 2020 website.

Their brief was to position the wide selection of F&B offerings available to guests who wanted to utilize the event space at the DEC during Expo, showcasing the wide range of international flavours as well as the quality control and measures that will be implemented (from the sustainable sourcing of the produce to recycling and waste management).

THE SOLUTION

The result was a highly immersive and visually engaging brochure that looked to celebrate the F&B offering at Expo, allowing readers to be immersed in the culinary delights on offer, with ease of access to the information.

Shared Vision, Shared Voices

The UAE Minister of State commissioned Touchline to write, edit, and publish a substantial coffee-table book on the remarkable and enduring relationship between the United Arab Emirates and sub-Saharan Africa.

The book featured unique historical and modern-day content researched and written by the Touchline team and was published and launched in late 2016 at a major Ministry event to mark the publication. The book is available in English, French, and Arabic editions.

Cover artwork – Visualising the fusion of two historical cultures

We commissioned artist Victor Sitali to create a bespoke piece of artwork that conveyed the historical infusion and sharing of cultural ideas and traditions between both the UAE and sub-Saharan Africa. Drawing inspiration from the brushmarks from his oil painting, we incorporated that visual style throughout the essay book within the chapter dividers, using colours drawn from the region to denote the individual chapters and different sections of the book.
